Asymmetric and Symmetric Payoffs An irregular, even discontinuous, pattern of changes in settlement valuation that does not translate all linear changes in the value of the underlying instrument, index, or rate into a continuous, linear settlement value. Asymmetric payoff patterns are characteristic of traditional securities with embedded options and of option contracts themselves. See also Symmetric Payoff.
