Candlestick Chart Using a charting technique called rosoku-ashi which originated in Japan, candlestick charts indicate the trading range for the day as well as the opening and closing price. If the close was higher than the open, the rectangle between the open and close is unshaded. If the open was higher than the close, that area of the candlestick is shaded.
