Contingent Swap

A swap agreement that takes effect only if some designated event occurs, such as an acquisition or an interest rate move. Usually one party, needing the risk adjustment of the swap in the event of this contingency, will pay an option premium to the other party. A swaption is a special type of contingent swap with its value and exercise usually contingent on an interest rate. See also Swaption.
