Convenience Yield

A premium earned by holders of a physical commodity-and, sometimes, by holders of a government bond which is in short supply in the REPO market. A convenience yield reflects the near-term scarcity of the underlying commodity or instrument. Analogous to a stock loan premium. See Backwardation (1).
