Convex Payoff Function

Relative to a linear payoff pattern, a return function that has higher returns at the extreme values of the underlying asset and lower returns at values close to the average value of the underlying asset. Convexity is the result of increased exposure to the performance of the underlying as the underlying increases, and reduced exposure as the underlying decreases. See Convexity (1) and (2) (diagrams).
