Covariance

A measure of the correspondence between the movement of two random variables such as securities prices or returns. The correlation coefficient is a normalized covariance measure because it is independent of the units of measurement. It is calculated as the product of the variables' standard deviations and their correlation coefficient. See also R (Correlation Coefficient).
