European Currency Unit (ECU)

A weighted basket of currencies of members of the European Economic Community (EC). Over time, the composition and weighting of the ECU would have become increasingly stable if original agreements remained in force. While the ECU remains in use as a unit of account for certain organizations like the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the likely name for any widely-used currency is the Euro.
