Highly Leveraged Transaction (HLT)
As defined by several U.S. federal agencies, (1) a transaction which at least doubles a borrower's liabilities and results in a leverage ratio higher than fifty percent or (2) a transaction which results in a leverage ratio higher than seventy- five percent, or which is designated as a highly leveraged transaction in a bank syndication loan.
