Medium-Term Notes (MTN)
Plain vanilla debt instruments with a fixed rate and fixed maturity (typically less than seven years, but occasionally much longer). Medium-term notes are the basic component of the debt issuance programs of many investment grade borrowers. A medium-term note yield can serve as the base rate for a swap payment and an MTN component can be part of a hybrid security.
