Out-of-Sample Data

In modeling, data that was not used in estimation of a model that is used to test the model. For example, one may develop a model using data from 1970 through 1979. Then the model is tested with data from 1980 through 1989. The data from 1980 through 1989 is out-of-sample data. See Hold-Out Period.
