The number of puts traded in a market divided by the number of calls traded. Although this ratio is often used as an indication of market sentiment, the necessity for maintenance of approximate put/call parity and the interchangeability of long calls and protective puts for many investors make the put/call ratio's usefulness as a market indicator highly doubtful.
