Special members of the Tokyo Stock Exchange who match buy and sell orders in stock, futures, and options markets. In contrast to specialists in some United States markets and market makers in most world equity markets, Saitori do not take positions for their own account. They do assume responsibility for maintaining orderly and-to the extent possible-continuous markets. A trade which will have an adverse affect on market stability will often be delayed by the Saitori to see if an order on the other side of the market will arrive. Individuals filling a similar role on the Osaka stock exchange are called Nakadachi members. Compare to Specialist.
