Segmented Market Hypothesis

(1) See Preferred Habitat Hypothesis. (2) The notion that some markets are artificially compartmentalized. One variation of this hypothesis notes that investors display a home bias in their choice of assets. Even though a more efficient portfolio is obtainable through optimal international diversification, investors sacrifice portfolio efficiency and overweight assets in their own countries.
