Single Monthly Mortality (SMM)

A method of measuring the prepayment rate of a mortgage pool. Specifically, the single monthly mortality is equal to the unscheduled prepayments during a month divided by the scheduled balance for the end of the month expressed as a percentage. See also Conditional Prepayment Rate (CPR).
