Soft Call Protection

A limited premium to parity which an issuer must pay to call a bond after any period of hard call protection has passed. A typical soft call provision might require a 50 basis point per year premium for an early call. Non-convertible bonds usually can be called at a premium that declines gradually as the bond approaches maturity. See also Call Protection, Hard Call Protection.
