Special Miscellaneous Account (SMA)
An account defined in Regulation T which is used to accumulate the value of a brokerage customer's excess margin and buying power. The workings of a special miscellaneous account often enable an investor to borrow somewhat more than Regulation T requirements appear on the surface to permit.
