Spline Smoothing

In data analysis, a technique used to fit a smooth curve to an otherwise irregular scatter plot of points on a graph. The technique involves fitting a polynomial function to ranges of the data in such a way that the fitted curves join as the curve passes from one range to the next and have the same slopes and second derivatives at such points.
