Trade or Fade Rule

A rule adopted by United States options exchanges to facilitate multiple exchange option trading without customer orders appearing to trade through better bids or offers that are not real quotes where a trade can be done. If the market maker at an exchange receiving a customer order is not willing to match another exchange's posted better bid or offer, the receiving market maker may offer to trade with the market maker who is posting the better price. The market maker with the better quote must trade at that price or change his quote to prevent the appearance of a trade through. Compare with Trade or Send Rule.
