Two-Sided (or -Tailed) Test
|
An hypothesis test where the alternative to the maintained or null hypothesis states simply that the parameter of interest is different in value from that specified under the null hypothesis. It is easier to reject a particular null hypothesis if the test is not two-sided because the critical value of the appropriate statistic is lower for a one-sided test. A one-sided test incorporates the additional information that deviations from the null hypothesis parameter value can only occur in one direction. See also One-Sided (or -Tailed) Test.
