Drawdown

Percentage loss measured from the high value of an account or fund. In management of many types of futures accounts and some general accounts, the account is terminated if losses exceed a previously agreed upon drawdown from the initial investment or a recent high. In evaluating the performance of a Commodity Trading Advisor (CTA), the maximum cumulative loss over a period of months is often cited as a measure of the risk the manager has taken.
