Iterative Solution

A solution that is arrived at by trial and error. An analyst calculates the implied volatility of an option with iterative techniques. Various values for volatility are substituted into the Black-Scholes equation until the theoretical option value agrees with the option's market price. The bisection method and the Newton- Raphson method are particularly efficient iterative procedures.
