Long Hedge

A risk offsetting position which protects an investor or liability manager from an opportunity loss in the event of price appreciation in an underlying before a desired position can be established. An example might be a long call or a long futures or forward position taken in anticipation of a cash inflow which will finance a cash market investment. See Anticipatory Hedge (1), Hedge.
