Longitudinal Study

A study through time of a variable or group of variables. For example, a researcher may perform a cross sectional regression analysis each month to measure the relationship between variation in book value and variation in return for a sample of stocks. An examination of month by month changes in this relationship would constitute a longitudinal study.
