Designated Primary Market Maker (DPM)

A floor trader responsible for maintaining a two-sided market for a specific product on the Chicago Board Options Exchange. The DPM's responsibilities are much like those of a specialist on other exchanges. Creation of this category of floor member is a recognition of the advantages the specialist system enjoys when two exchanges are competing for order flow in the same product.
